Princeton University Press is thrilled to have welcomed four new members to our European Advisory Board: Jim Al-Khalili, Pedro Ferreira, Tom Kraushaar, and Jonathan Glasspool begin their tenure on the Board this year. The 24-member European Advisory Board is a vital source of insight and advice on developments in the European academy and publishing, and serves as a sounding board for new editorial initiatives and discipline specific book projects. Board members also help raise awareness of the Press within the broad community of academic authors and scholarly publishing in Europe.
The newest members come from a diversity of backgrounds across academia and publishing in the United Kingdom and continental Europe. Jim Al-Khalili CBE FRS is Distinguished Professor of Physics and Professor of the Public Engagement in Science, University of Surrey and presenter of The Life Scientific on BBC Radio 4. He is the author of numerous books, including with PUP, The World According to Physics (2020) and The Joy of Science (2022). Pedro Ferreira is Professor of Astrophysics, University of Oxford, and Director of the Beecroft Institute for Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology, as well as an experienced author. Tom Kraushaar is Publisher of the German publishing house Klett-Cotta. Jonathan Glasspool is Chair of Bonhill Plc and Bath Spa University and Former Managing Director of Bloomsbury Publishing.
As we welcome new members, we also wish to extend our deep gratitude for the invaluable contributions of now-retired Board members Sally Hardy, John Kay, Diarmaid MacCulloch, Stephan Chambers, Karen O’Brien and Jonathan Wolff, as well as Board member Colin Blakemore, who sadly passed away this past summer. Their vision and collaboration have been integral to shaping and steering PUP’s publishing in Europe and beyond.
PUP recently celebrated 23 years in Europe and in late 2021 moved European operations into a new building at 99 Banbury Road in Oxford. The move aligned with and has supported the initiatives of a growing number of UK-based staff across editorial, marketing, digital publishing, and foreign rights teams. Various Press programs—including our in-house speaker’s bureau, PUP Speaks, and our audio publishing program Princeton Audio—and various partnerships, including a publishing collaboration with Wild Nature Press and the TORCH Lectures in European History and Culture, co-hosted with the University of Oxford’s Research Centre in the Humanities—have originated in the European office.
In working to further our mission of bringing influential ideas and a diversity of voices to the world stage, we are so grateful for the guidance and collaboration of every Board member—our publishing is all the better for it.
