Carolyn Chen

Carolyn Chen is Professor of Ethnic Studies at UC Berkeley and the Co-Director of the Berkeley Center for the Study of Religion. Her research focuses on religion, spirituality, and work in the new economy, as well as Asian American religions. She is the author of Getting Saved in America: Taiwanese Immigration and Religious Experience and Work Pray Code: When Work Becomes Religion in Silicon Valley . Carolyn’s research on work, religion, and spirituality has been featured in the New York Times, Atlantic, CNN, and National Public Radio. She is Co-Director of the UC Berkeley Center for the Study of Religion, and executive director of the Asian Pacific American Religions Research Initiative (APARRI), a scholarly community committed to the advancement of public knowledge of Asian Pacific American religions.
