The Bookseller recently released the 12th edition of Rising Stars, an annual list of the book industry’s up-and-comers and leaders of the future. The Bookseller reports that the 2022 list shows a group with a determined, DIY ethos, often working to advance the trade as a whole rather than for individual gain. PUP is thrilled to congratulate Charlotte Coyne, a publicist working in our UK office, on joining this year’s Rising Stars cohort. The Bookseller notes: “2022’s cohort have been through it the past couple of years. It is not just huge difficulties engendered by the pandemic, but wider and disparate societal shifts and geopolitical flashpoints—including rising racial and class tensions, the energy crisis, culture wars online, shooting wars in Europe—which have made their working lives (and undoubtedly personal ones) far more complex. And yet, the 2022 Rising Stars have not been held back by these challenges. Far from it; they have found creative, positive and entrepreneurial ways of making their businesses better and expanding readership.”
Charlotte, a History graduate from Yorkshire, looks forward to a year of growth:
I’m really thrilled to have been chosen to be one of the Bookseller’s Rising Stars for this year. I remember this time last year I was looking at the magazine announcing the 2021 intake and thinking “Wow, I’d love it if that were me in a few years’ time! But it’s probably never going to happen!” I’ve been overwhelmed by the support I’ve received from my manager Kate Farquhar-Thomson in nominating me, as well as the rest of the team when the announcement was made. I’m hoping it will grant me a great opportunity to meet lots more people within the publishing industry. I’m looking forward to growing more in my role in publicity, particularly in the area of events and festivals which of course were not as active as usual when I started my role in lockdown. I’m looking to work more closely with the history festivals and a number of northern festivals- as a Yorkshire-hailing History graduate, that’s very tailored to me! Following the Spring 2023 Seasonal Launch, I now have a new crop of monographs I will be working on in the coming months that I’m very excited to dig into, particularly Virtuous Bankers that we were very enthusiastic about in the UK office! As I also log reviews, review requests, and update our contacts for our trade titles; there were so many great trade titles I was excited to see, but I think Period and Gods and Mortals were two of the key ones that stood out for me. I’m keen to see reviews for these when they come out.
PUP offers sincere congratulations to Charlotte on this honor and looks forward to supporting her as her role grows.
